It was a 90s summer and my father was in Manhattan attending the NY Film Academy; it was his last week in New York when he saw RENT with the original cast. He had no idea what to do with his future and he was taking this big risk to go to NY to attend the film academy. He had planned to return to Illinois that following week. RENT was the message he had been waiting for, it influenced him to follow his dreams. My dad has shared his love for RENT with me, and it is my favorite bonding experience; in 2022, we saw the same production of RENT 4 times together. I owe my existence to RENT.

My mom moved to California from Iceland to pursue a degree at the age of 27. I am fluent in Icelandic and very connected to my roots. As theater has inspired me in every aspect of my life, I find ways to showcase my passions in all the ways I can, finding comfort in Icelandic theater. Benedikt Búalfur has been my favorite Icelandic musical since the age of 3, and I hope that others will love it too.
